Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) is one of the most popular procedures in facial plastic surgery. Nose reshaping can be performed to meet aesthetic goals or for reconstructive purposes – to correct birth defects or breathing problems. The result can be subtle or dramatic depending on the patient’s desired effect.
Rhinoplasty is considered by many to be the most complex operation in cosmetic surgery. Nasal anatomy and facial structure vary from person to person, and rhinoplasty must be individualized for each patient who visits our practice. Through rhinoplasty, plastic surgeon Michael Salzhauer, MD, will enhance your nose so that it matches your facial structure and appears natural.
Undergoing Rhinoplasty
At our practice, rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia, allowing you to sleep through the procedure. It typically takes about one to two hours to complete the surgery, though complicated cases can take longer. Following surgery, Dr. Salzhauer will apply a splint to your nose to help it maintain its new shape.
Once home, you can take pain medication to alleviate any discomfort and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. You should be out of bed after one to two days and able to return to most normal activities after about one to two weeks.

Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty
Dr. Salzhauer can perform either open or closed rhinoplasty at his practice, depending on your unique surgical needs and the complexity of your case. In open rhinoplasty, surgery is performed though an incision made across the strip of tissue separating the nostrils. In closed rhinoplasty, all surgery is performed from an incision within the nose, so scars are hidden. Both methods lead to beautiful, natural looking results.
Rhinoplasty Revision Surgery
Dr. Salzhauer also frequently performs revision rhinoplasty in Miami on patients who have undergone nose surgery elsewhere. During your initial rhinoplasty consultation, he will find out why you are unhappy with your nose and will develop a plan for surgery.
