Face Lift

The effects of gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life can take a toll on the appearance of the face. Deep creases form between the nose and mouth; the jawline grows slack and jowls develop; folds and fat deposits appear around the neck.

A face lift (rhytidectomy) can help improve the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of the face and neck.

At our office face lift surgery is often combined with other procedures such as blepharoplasty and brow lift for a “complete” look. Depending on your needs, younger patients may be candidates for the newer “short-scar” face lift.

Older patients who require more facial suspension are better candidates for a deep plane face lift. In addition, non-surgical face lifts that require no cutting, no hospitalization, no anesthesia and no downtime are becoming more and more popular.

Procedure: Face Lift, Brow Lift, and Blepharoplasty

Denise R.
Age: 53

Dr Michael,
I can not tell you how happy having the surgery on my face has made me feel. Everyday when I look in the mirror I am so glad I had everything done from the upper eye lifts, the lower eyes, the face lift and my lips. Some days if I don’t want to I won’t put any make up on and before my surgery I could never even think of that. Your self esteem is lifted not to mention when some one you have not seen for a while comes up to you and says “What’s different with you? What have you done? You are a different person” I think that makes it all worth the while.

Staying over night in the hospital was a very good discussion and I am glad that you, Dr. Salzhauer, suggested that for me. My whole experience with the surgery was terrific especially the great outcome.

Thank you so much,
Denise R.

Barbara P.
Age: 47

To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Barbara P. and I would like to tell you my story. All my life growing up I was so proud when people would say, “You look just like your father”. Well as I got older (and so did my Dad) people still said, “You look just like your Dad”. There I was 45 years old going to be 46 in February of 2004 and I woke up one morning and went to the mirror. I stared and said “Wow, I do look like my Dad and he is 75 years old” and I started not to like looking like my Dad anymore. I knew I can become depressed or I can do something about this situation. So I did something about it. I made an appointment on my 46 birthday with Dr. Michael Salzhauer. Did you ever give yourself a gift? They always turn out to be the best….well I did – a total facelift! I went into the office and was greeted by the friendliest and most compassionate staff. I was brought back into the examining room where Dr. Michael (as I call him) examined me and took lots of photos.

We then went into his office where we viewed my face and Dr. Michael worked his computer to show me what he could do to make me look younger! I was amazed, excited and enjoying my day! Well, surgery was scheduled for April 1st and I couldn’t wait.

I chose to stay the night and have the surgery performed at the Kindred Hospital on Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. I was not nervous one bit when the day finally came. Into surgery, out of surgery and everything was fine.

Approximately 2 weeks later I was completely healed and back to work 100%. During my recuperation I had no pain, a wonderful doctor and a staff that would always check up on me between office visits and also my surgery fell right there during Dr. Michael’s vacation and celebration of Passover. He was in Sarasota with family and drove all the way back home to check on me and a few other patients and then drove back to his family! Don’t find many doctors like this one!!!! Well, how can I really explain how successful my surgery really was? First and foremost I LOVE MY NEW FACE!!! Second I have a lot of friends and from the first day home they visited me daily to see the progress of my surgery. As the two week mark was approaching and as I went back to the office for check ups many of my friends would ask if they could come with me for a consultation of their own. Several of my friends also have new faces and we are all enjoying our new life Dr. Michael gave us all!!!!! We love you Dr. Mike!!!

Very truly yours,
Barbara P.

Face Lifts: The Method

The method of performing face lift surgery varies greatly from patient to patient. As much as possible, Dr. Salzhauer attempts to customize the procedure to better suit the specific needs of each patient.

In general, the surgery can be performed with local anesthesia – allowing the patient to remain conscious but relaxed and not feeling pain, or with general anesthesia – which puts the patient to sleep for the duration of the procedure, usually an hour or two.

The four main stages of face lift surgery are:

  • Incision
  • Smoothing of the skin
  • Removal of excess tissue
  • Closure of the incisions

The size and location of the incisions can vary from patient to patient, but in general, Dr. Salzhauer will attempt to place them in areas where potential scarring will be least noticeable, such as behind the hairline. The amount and location of tissue removed also varies greatly. Dr. Salzhauer will often trim or suction excess fat from the neck and chin to improve facial contour. Once the proper amount of tissue has been removed, the face lift incisions can be closed.

Face Lift Recovery Period

Most patients return to work 10 to 14 days after the face lift procedure. The length of recovery and amount of discomfort experienced in the days after the surgery vary greatly from patient to patient and will depend on the extent of work done. Dr. Salzhauer can prescribe pain medication to alleviate any potential discomfort.

The Consult

Dr. Salzhauer considers the initial consult one of the most important parts of the face lift process. This is the time when Dr. Salzhauer will address any concerns and answer any questions you have about the surgery. Among other things, you will discuss:

  • Potential risk factors of face lift surgery
  • Potential benefits of face lift surgery
  • What you hope to gain from the surgery
  • The limitations of the surgery respective to your particular case
  • The length of your recovery period
  • Other treatments or surgical techniques that you might benefit from
  • If you have questions about face lift surgery, contact our office, we can address any of your concerns and ensure that you are fully informed about your treatment before you choose to follow through with the procedure.

Face Lift Alternative: Featherlift®

Featherlift® is a minimally invasive procedure that is designed to lift sagging skin and facial tissue and reduce early signs of aging.

How Does Featherlift® Work?

During a Featherlift® procedure, Dr. Salzhauer inserts special threads beneath the skin and loops them around the face and neck to lift sagging skin. Each thread has tiny barbs that help to gently lift and hold skin and tissue in place. Once the desired effect has been achieved, the sterile threads are secured and left beneath the skin.

Since only a small needle and no knives or scalpels are involved, the treatment requires only mild, local anesthesia. It generally takes less than an hour to complete and involves little or no downtime.

Featherlift® can be used to raise the brow, lift sagging neck tissue, reduce the appearance of jowls, and even lift the soft tissue of the face.

Forehead/Browlift

A forehead lift, also known as browlift, is a procedure used to tighten and rejuvenate the forehead area. It is extremely effective at improving horizontal lines, furrows, drooping brows, and other signs of aging. When performing browlift, Dr. Salzhauer first makes an incision along the top of the forehead, just behind the hairline. He then carefully removes muscle and tissue to give the skin a smoother, more youthful appearance. In some cases, Dr. Salzhauer can perform endoscopic browlift surgery. This method, which involves the use of a small camera to guide the surgery, results in smaller scars than traditional browlift surgery.
